INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

WHAT COMES WITH A TPD INTERNSHIP?

The Tulsa Police Department Volunteer Internship program provides students a hands-on experience in the Municipal Law Enforcement career field.  It offers students a better understanding of the rewards and challenges that are faced by Tulsa Police Officers.

TPD Internships are volunteer and not paid.  Units available for assignment include Property Room, Detective Division, Training Division, Headquarters, Community Engagement, or Records.  Tasks will vary depending on the unit assigned.  During the Internship, students will have the opportunity to visit or shadow 911 Dispatch and participate in a Citizen Ride Along.  Some Specialty Unit training days may also be available.

Prior to unit placement,  the intern coordinator will conduct interviews with every candidate. If selected Tulsa Police Department conducts a background investigation.  Once placed in a unit, interns are provided with a supervisor who will then serve as the primary point of contact.

There are three working semesters in which the student can apply, Spring, Summer, and Fall.  The semester is 3-4 months long in which the hours must be completed.  The number of hours is determined by the institution and must be scheduled and signed off on by the assigned TPD Unit Supervisor or Officer.  It is up to the student to provide the assigned TPD Unit Supervisor any documentation or requirements upon starting the semester.

Interns are expected to work between 6-12 hours per week between the hours of 7 am and 4 pm Monday through Friday.  Ride-alongs and dispatch shadow can be scheduled in the evenings or weekends.
